Yaron S. Rabinowitz, M.D.
Diplomate, American Board of Ophthalmology
Dr. Rabinowitz served as Chief of Ophthalmology and is currently
the Director of Research in the Division of Ophthalmology at Cedars-Sinai
Medical Center in Los Angeles, specializing in the cornea, refractive
surgery (LASIK) and hereditary eye diseases. He obtained his subspecialty
training at the USC/Doheny Eye Institute and Johns Hopkins University.
In 1990 Dr. Rabinowitz founded the Cornea Genetic Eye Institute
at Cedars-Sinai Mark Goodson Building .
He has been the recipient of a prestigious research grant sponsored
by the National Eye Institutes of Health since 1992. His research
interests include studying the shape of the cornea as it is applied
to refractive surgery (corneal topography) and the genetics of keratoconus,
a genetic disease affecting the cornea.
He was the Chief of Ophthalmology from 1996 to 2001 and is currently
the Director of Ophthalmology Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
He is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye
Institute, UCLA School of Medicine and was the recipient of the
Jules Stein Alumni Research Award in 1991, awarded for his work
on innovative eye laser surgery techniques.
Dr. Rabinowitz is the author of a book on corneal topography, the
inventor of a computer program which is used for screening for refractive
surgery on a worldwide basis. He has published over 50 journal articles
and abstracts, and given 100 lectures in more than a dozen countries.

refractive surgery since completing his fellowship in 1989. He has
been an investigator for FDA clinical trials on both the VISX laser
and the LADARVision tracking laser and is currently an investigator
for Custom Cornea clinical trials to treat irregular corneas and
to attempt to achieve 'supervision' in normal eyes. He is the founding
Director of Laser Eye Associates of Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai
Mark Goodson Building, one of the most sophisticated laser surgery
groups in the world. He has been the recipient of the VISX star
award based on the number of laser surgeries performed and has performed
thousands of laser surgeries including over 30 doctors many of whom
are cornea specialists, ophthalmologists and optometrists.
An avid reader, traveler, and tennis player, he is married and lives
with his wife Nancy, three children Leah, Alec and Sara in Marina
Del Rey, California.
